Prologue

Volos is a Greek dining room built for the long evening — upscale without ceremony, quiet enough for conversation, close enough to the theatres to matter. A room where the wine list runs deep and the fish arrives whole.

The restaurant sits on Richmond Street West in the heart of Toronto's Theatre District — a contemporary space defined by whitewashed walls, wooden bar, and the large terracotta amphorae that give the room its warmth. It is a room designed for lunches that stretch, dinners that linger, and celebrations that need a bit of privacy.

The kitchen reads Greek in its bones and modern in its plating — mezes to share, fresh seafood from the day's catch, mainland classics, and a wine list built around Assyrtiko, Xinomavro, and the bottles that reward a serious pour.

Notes from the Kitchen

A room built for long evenings.

I. Whitewash & Wood

The Room

A contemporary Greek dining room by way of the Cyclades: whitewashed stucco, wooden floors, a bar that stays lit into the small hours. The terracotta amphorae are not decorative — they anchor the room and hold the promise of what the kitchen and cellar are about.

II. From the Sea

Fresh Seafood, Whole Fish

Seafood is the throughline — simply grilled whole fish, octopus over coals, tarama and taramosalata done properly. The kitchen leans on olive oil, lemon, oregano and salt; the intervention stops where the ingredient begins.

III. A Deep Cellar

The Greek Wine List

The list is one of the reasons regulars keep the room busy: Assyrtiko from Santorini, Xinomavro from the North, sparkling grower wines, spirits, and the kind of by-the-glass rotation you can build a whole night around. Cocktails and coffee both take the same care.

IV. Private Dining

The Back Room

A dedicated private dining room for groups — business dinners, birthdays, rehearsals, anniversaries. Reservations are required and worth planning around; the room fills quickly for theatre nights.

Chapter II

Everything the room quietly gets right.

Every detail on this list is on the record — drawn from what guests and Google verify about the room. The picture that emerges is the one the regulars know: cozy, quiet, upscale, ready.

Cozy, quiet, upscale — and unmistakably romantic.

Guests describe Volos with the same short words: cozy, quiet, trendy, upscale, romantic. It is a rare combination and the reason the room fills for anniversary tables and second dates alike.

Great cocktails, great wine, great coffee

An onsite bar with a deep list of Greek wines, spirits, and cocktails — and a coffee program that has earned its own reputation among regulars.

Private dining room

A dedicated space for groups, business dinners, and celebrations — wall-to-wall service, room for the whole table, and a door that closes.

A serious wine list, built around Greek varietals

Assyrtiko, Xinomavro, and the bottles most rooms don't know how to pour — alongside the classics. Whether you order by the glass or by the bottle, the by-the-glass rotation is worth reading.

Family friendly, high chairs available

Groups welcome, tourists welcome, families welcome — the room comfortably holds a table of two or a table of twelve.

Wheelchair accessible

Wheelchair-accessible seating and restrooms. Paid parking lot and street parking directly on Richmond.

Dine-in, takeout, delivery
